The Sydney Hedges Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Colstrip, Montana. We were founded in 2018 after the passing of our namesake, Sydney Hedges. Syd was diagnosed with glioblastoma at the age of 11, and fought until she was 17.
After her passing, her parents were going through her room, and her mom found a list of “wishes” that Sydney wanted to grant. The item that stood out most was that she wanted to start a non-profit organization so that kids battling medical conditions across the state of Montana could get the help that they deserve; so that is our mission. In honor of Syd and her genuine spirit, we work year-round to raise money to help families across our beautiful state with travel and lodging expenses while they face their toughest battles.
This year our annual fundraising even was held on September 13, 2025, in Colstrip. Over the past 7 years, we have been able to help 100+ families. As we continue to help families, we would greatly appreciate your support through a donation of an auction item(s) for our live or silent auction at our annual fundraising event or a monetary donation directly to our foundation.
We are a 501(c)(3) and we can provide that information as requested. If you are interested in our mission and would like to follow along as we continue to help Montana families, please follow our Facebook page!

Sydney Hedges
Sydney lived the first seven years of her life in Carbon County, where she was blessed with many friends and happy memories. At the age of eight, Sydney moved to Colstrip, where she was living her best life. On a sunny day in June, however, Syd collapsed while playing with her friends. She was rushed to the hospital and was later diagnosed with brain cancer. This devastating disease took so much away from Syd, but she never let it get her down; she fought the good fight and continued to bless those around her. Sydney left an influence on immeasurable amounts of people. She blessed us with her desire to help others and her love of animals. She stayed strong in her desire to face her challenges, and in doing so, she proved that a young girl from a little town could do monumental things with hard work and kindness. Throughout the fight for life against the cancer beast, Syd would say, "We must find the good in this day." At the age of 17, Sydney Ann Hedges made her journey home on March 20, 2017. Our goal is to continue to honor her wish.
